British Skateboard Museum
This is my collection of Skateboards By British Companies or British Professional Skateboarders I'm always looking for more especially from the 70's and early 80's thanks for checking them out.
DECKS AND COMPLETES
Surf Flyer:- This is
possibly the most popular skateboard in the UK ever. When the craze hit in
1976-77 these where the first boards most people had. Flyer (Morris-Vulcan) where well
established roller-skate manufacturers and copied the American 60's boards to
produce these rubber wheeled wonders. They came in 3 colours Red, Blue &
Green and some of them had deadly rear brakes. I only need a blue one now to
finish my collection.
Flyer super slalom :-
Flyer expanded there operation having gained the biggest market share in the UK
they then provided a range of boards you could aspire to own as you developed as
a skater, utilizing the "new" range of Urethane wheels. you can see
their full range HERE which was available from major retailers like Woolworth's
and British Home Stores.
Allycat freestyle:-
This was another popular board in the 70's around the time of the BBC
Nationwide Skateboard Championships it was seen as a step up from a flyer or
other polypropylene
boards and was often set up with quality American wheels and trucks. Allycat was
a brand manufactured in the USA and distributed in both UK and US and although
it was British owned as Americans would have never had the need for wheels that
grip in the wet which is another product they made. This board came set up with
ACS 651 trucks, Blue Bird wheels and wooden riser pads.
Barracuda:- I don't
know much about this deck but was told they where made in Norwich England. Its a nice
70's shape and has a very professional grip job it came fitted with ACS 580
trucks and British made Skuda SK-5 wheels. it has unusual metal nose and tail
guards made from aluminum strips which would have been ahead of their time and
has been fitted with a tail saver.
Benjyboard John Sablosky
:- John Sablosky was an American living in London when the Craze hit the UK.
he was initially sponsored buy Hobie and then joined Benjyboard who where the
leading importer and distributor of skateboard equipment at that time. Most if
not all Benjyboard where made in Canada by WWW this is a beautifully crafted
deck with two tone bi-laminated wood on top and ply to the bottom with wheel
wheels: Check out the cool Add for this board.
Fresh air Ben Liddle pro
model:-This is one of the nicest and rarest decks I own Ben Liddle was a
well established Professional in the UK having had other boards for the LOGOS
team and his own advice column in "Skateboard Scene" one of the UK
skateboard magazines, with the move to wider boards in 1978 Ben put this well
crafted deck out under the name FRESH AIR. the add for the board was pretty good
with Ben doing 3 tricks in the one photo at the Ocean 'n' Earth Skateboard park
where I think he worked as the manager. It is fitted with small pivot Tracker
fultracks and orange Alva flat back wheels.
SIMS
FLAGSHIP CONCAVE- 30x10 concave Sims E series concave deck with fiberglass/wood
ply mix for strength.
this is still in the shrink wrap and probably my most valuable deck be cause of
it.
SURE-GRIP INTERNATIONAL
UNION JACK BLASTER- American made 30x10 spoon nose concave with union jack graphics from
around 1985
CHERRY BOMB LEE
BRYAN-PHOTO PENDING thanks to cherry bomb team member Tony Hallam for this deck.
G&S Danny Webster
Shocked:- This was Danny's first pro model on G&S he had made a big
impression on the American Pros at European summer camps in the mid 80's and
went to the states to join the ranks of Professional ramp skaters of all the
boards I have this is one of my favorite graphics and is pretty rare deck now
days.
G&S Danny Webster
Fiberlite:-This board was the same shape as the "Shocked" model
but was made of fiberglass and foam core construction to save weight. G&S
only made 3 models in Fiberlite the others where for Billy Ruff and Neil Blender
these boards very rare as they where a limited production run and a lot of them
broke as they where light weight.
G&S Danny Webster Go Home Webster:-NOT HERE YET.
G&S Danny Webster-
Phone Bill:-G&S Changed Danny's graphics as a result of a $4500 phone
bill he allegedly ran up phoning home from Texas where he spent a lot of time.
RAD magazine ran a story at the time that this was to speak to his dog, However
I'd be more inclined to think it was either Home sickness or Drink that caused
him to run up such a bill either way its an amusing story as long as you don't
have to pay the bill.
RIPSTIX
Neil Danz- Tribesman. Neil Dans still rates as one of the best British vert
skaters after over 25years of skateboarding he still has the tricks and fluid
style that brought him to prominence in the early 80's ESA competitions. This
Tribesman deck was put out by SURREY SKATEBOARDS with graphics by Doug Cameron
making very effective use of a 3 colour screen a killer board made in Canada for
RIPSTIX
DOGTOWN
Lucian Hendricks- Crest. London based Lucian was the bad boy of British
skateboarding so when he was signed to Dogtown it suited the image he had. This
was his first of two pro models for the company before he went on to set up his
own clothing company. Dogtown's graphics in he late 80's left a bit to be
desired and this crest logo looks best on natural wood stain.
BRAND
X SEAN GOFF-2. Its hard to say enough good things about Sean Goff or his
skating. The defining thing about him is that he is the first life long UK based
professional skateboarder having inadvertently set a path for other younger
skaters like Danny Wainright to follow. Sean still rides, demo's and competes.
Ranking as one of the world's top old school skaters. He's not just one of those
guys that turns up out of the blue every time skateboarding hits a new level of popularity, he's
there all the time. This deck is one of 9 pro models Sean has had over the years
it was his second model for Brand X and had graphics by another British skate
legend Ged Wells.
BRAND
X SEAN GOFF -3.Its hard to find a picture of Sean Riding this board as he
was making secret plans to join DeathBox skateboards as it was being designed.
It lead to this board and his Deathbox "tarot card" model
being advertised in the UK skateboard magazines as Sean's New deck in exactly
the same issue. Deathbox boss Jeremy Fox could see the funny side of it even if
Brand X's UK distributor Jo Burlo was less amused.

CITY SKATES. This is one of the first boards Ged Wells insane clothing label
put out under the guidance of Slam city boss Paul Sunman. Insane had a popular
line of skate based clothing and Ged's unusual graphics found their way on to a
number of high quality boards for slam city skates.

WHEELS
West Country Big Reds:- West
country skateboards was a shop and skateboard manufacturer based in Devon they
made wheels in the usual 60,65,70mm sizes, these are the 70mm 78a duro "BIG
REDS". West country also made decks the most successful of which was
the "Jedeck" a pro model for Jed Stone a legend in surfing and skating
circles who had been one of the first British skaters in the 60's.They are
listed in this West Country Add
Benjyboard Super boots
:-These where the second set of wheels Benjyboard marketed They where made
in the same factory as the more famous Belair lip bombs and Gullwing Wings.
Super boots where the conical version of the original Boots and they came in the
same green colour as wings although I have seen coloured versions.
Traknology wheels :-
Arrows skateboards from Wolverhampton had these made and famously brought over a
team of American professionals to design and market them and other Arrow
skateboard products such as Caltrack wheels and Arrow decks. Dogtown/Z-boy
skaters such as Jay Adams, Dave Hackett and Shogo Kubo used these.
